Falconry Experience Wales is an experience to suit all ages. For those already interested
in birds of prey, it's a great way of seeing a variety of species at close quarters,
with the additional bonus of handling and flying a cross section of the birds, under
the expert guidance of the friendliest of hosts, Barry & Luce McDonald.
For those not conversant, this is a fantastic introduction to these amazing birds
- Barry & Luce provide a warm, friendly welcome, and their knowledge and understanding
of their birds is phenomenal. Their love and care for the birds can clearly be seen
in their presentation, which makes for a truly personal experience, not always evident
in some of the more commercial ventures available.
With an idyllic setting, high in the hills just beyond the Cambrian mountains, the
birds are only flown when conditions are right, so bookings can be subject to postponement,
as was the case for my own experience (shared with a friend), which was kindly held
open for us. Though this may cause initial disappointment, the benefits were immediately
apparent when the experience went ahead. Again, because of their supreme understanding
of the birds, Barry & Luce ensure that everyone gains the best possible experience.
I am more than happy to recommend this experience to anyone, and look forward to
returning in the future, such was the warmth of welcome we received.
A camera is a must, to record your experience, which for us was just over 3 hours
and included lots of information about the birds themselves, and Barry & Luce's respective
backgrounds. There are a variety of options which can be tailored to personal requirements,
all of which provide a most enjoyable day out. Decent footwear is an advantage, as
the birds are flown in an open field.
